Black Marble Vanity: Etched Surround Restored & Protected
About This Repair
This dark marble vanity unit had lost its lustre. Around the inset cream basin, the once mirror like stone had become dull, cloudy and patchy, with faint etch marks ringing the bowl and a tired, flat sheen across the surround. Marble is far softer than it looks, and in a busy washroom the combination of splashed toiletries, soap, perfume and acidic cleaning sprays slowly eats into the polished face. Over time that chemical etching breaks down the surface, leaving the white veining looking chalky and the black ground looking grey. This is a textbook black marble vanity etch restoration, where the damage is not a single chip but a gradual loss of finish across the whole top.
Our technician worked the stone back by hand, lifting the etching, refining the surface and rebuilding a clean, even polish so the deep black tone and crisp white veining returned. A clear protective coating was then applied over the marble to guard it against the everyday spills that caused the problem in the first place. The after image shows a sharp, reflective surround that frames the basin properly again, with no cloudiness and no dull halo.
Plenty of online guides suggest a quick polish will sort etched marble, but lifting acid damage without burning a shiny patch into a matt area takes real judgement, and home attempts often make the contrast worse. Magicman has been restoring delicate surfaces like this since 1993, using fully trained technicians and proprietary materials rather than guesswork.
