Smashed Ceramic Basin Rim Rebuilt and Restored

The front of this white ceramic pedestal basin had been smashed apart, with the whole leading edge of the rim broken into jagged sections and large chunks missing where the lip overhangs the pedestal. Pieces hung loose over a tiled wall set with green mosaic, and the basin looked every bit the lost cause that usually triggers a full strip out and a plumber booked for the day. In truth it was a recoverable ceramic basin repair.

Where chunks of rim are actually missing, a basin repair kit tends to make matters worse, building up a lumpy, off white mound that never matches the gloss and soon parts company with the ceramic, adding to the eventual bill. There was no need to go down that road. Our fully trained technician, working with the benefit of Magicman's 30 plus years of surface repair experience since 1993, rebuilt the lost rim with proprietary materials, restoring the original sweep of the edge before refinishing and colour matching it to the gloss white around it. Keeping the basin in place spared the tiling, the pedestal and the pipework, and saved a sound fixture from going to landfill.

The finished result speaks plainly, a smooth, continuous rim, an even gloss right across the bowl and not a hint of the breakage that came before.
