Scratched Wood Veneer Wall Panel Restored on a Vessel
About This Repair
Carried out aboard a vessel, this marine veneer wall panel repair rescued a warm timber interior without stripping out a single board. The light walnut veneer panel had a long, deep scratch running down from the recessed light pelmet, along with a torn paper label still stuck to the surface and the residue it left behind. Against the smooth grain, the gouge stood out sharply under the strip lighting.
Damage like this usually happens in transit or during a fit out, when tools, trolleys or fixings drag across a finished surface, or when protective tape and labels are peeled off and lift a sliver of the lacquer with them. On a boat, where joinery is bespoke and space is tight, swapping the panel would mean disturbing surrounding trim and a long wait for a colour match.
Our technician cleaned away the label and adhesive, filled and rebuilt the scratch, then regrained and recoloured the area so the figure of the veneer flowed straight through the repair. The after image shows an unbroken run of grain with the lighting reflecting evenly off the surface, the damage simply not there any more.
Veneer is thin and unforgiving, and a DIY touch up pen almost always reads as a darker line once the light hits it. Matching grain direction, tone and sheen is precise work that Magicman has done on marine and commercial interiors since 1993, with trained technicians and proprietary materials.
