Just beside the plughole of this white ceramic basin sat an ugly black scorch, a small but glaring blemish melted into the glaze. Something hot, most likely a cigarette or a heated styling tool, had been rested on the surface long enough to char and sink into the finish, leaving a dark, pitted mark in the worst possible spot, dead centre of the bowl.
