Corroded Bath Edge Restored Against Marble Tiling

About This Repair

The top edge of this enamelled bath had corroded heavily where it met the marble tiling, leaving a dark, scabbed channel of rust and blistering along the rim. On an enamel bath, damage like this usually starts when the protective glaze chips or the seal perishes, exposing the metal beneath to constant water. From there the corrosion eats inward, lifting the surrounding finish and spreading along the whole length of the edge.

Carrying out the enamel bath repair on site, our technician cut back the corroded material, treated and rebuilt the rim, then reformed a clean, level edge tight against the marble tiles. The chrome grab handle stayed in place and the new surface was colour matched to the surrounding white before being polished to a deep, glassy gloss. The after photograph shows a smooth, unbroken edge with no sign of the rust that had taken hold, the bath looking sound and serviceable once more.

People often try an enamel bath repair kit on damage like this, but a brush on kit cannot halt corrosion that has already taken hold beneath the surface. The patch tends to flatten the gloss, the colour rarely sits true and the rust quietly returns, so the bill grows rather than shrinks. Our technicians are fully trained and have spent over thirty years refining the process, working only with proprietary materials suited to enamel. A how to video may make patching a chip look effortless, yet treating live corrosion and blending enamel to an invisible finish is specialist work.
