Chipped Black Gloss Grand Piano Case Restored in Situ
About This Repair
Years of handling had taken their toll on the black gloss case of this grand piano. The lacquer had worn through along the curved bentside and down the lower moulding, chipping back to bare pale timber where shoulders, hands and the odd knock catch the edge most. On a piece finished in deep black, those raw scuffs shout for attention, and the chipping had begun to creep along the corner that takes the heaviest contact. This was a black gloss grand piano case chip repair that called for a steady hand and a sharp eye for colour.
Refinishing a piano case the traditional way usually means stripping the entire instrument and losing it to a workshop for weeks. Our technicians restored this one without it ever leaving the room. The chipped areas were filled and built back flush with Magicman proprietary materials, recoloured to meet the original black, then polished up to the same mirror gloss as the surrounding case. An engineered repair, handled on site, with the piano untouched where it stood.
The bentside and base moulding now read as a deep, unbroken black, free of exposed wood and ragged edges. The curves catch the light cleanly again and the case looks every inch the showpiece it should be.
