Water Damaged Mahogany Cabinet Top Restored to Gloss

A cloudy white bloom had crept right across the top of this rich mahogany office cabinet, the tell tale sign of moisture trapped beneath the lacquer. Water left standing on the surface, perhaps from a vase or a damp cloth, had worked its way into the finish and dried into milky streaks that killed the depth of the timber and left the whole piece looking neglected. The drawers and handles underneath were perfectly sound, so this was a textbook case for water bloomed mahogany cabinet top restoration rather than a costly replacement.

Sending a cabinet away to be stripped and refinished ties the piece up for days and disrupts a working office. Our technicians took a different route, treating the damage as an engineered repair carried out in place. The clouded lacquer was eased back and cut down, the affected timber beneath was stabilised, and the top was then recoloured and resealed using Magicman proprietary materials to draw the original warmth and grain back to the surface. The job was contained to a single visit.
