Oak Fire Doors Recoloured to a Matching Finish
About This Repair
This pair of oak veneered double fire doors, complete with overhead closers, a central vision panel and keep shut discs, had drifted out of tone with each other. One leaf had warmed to a redder shade while its partner stayed paler, leaving an obvious mismatch across the doorset. A fire door colour matching repair was the right answer here, bringing both leaves back to a single consistent oak finish.
Uneven fading like this usually comes from light, cleaning products and age affecting each leaf differently over time. Replacing both doors to cure a colour difference would be costly and disruptive, and on a fire doorset it also means recertifying new leaves. Instead, our technician recoloured the doors in situ, working the oak tone across both faces so the grain and depth of colour read as a matched pair. The certified fire integrity of each leaf is preserved, since the repair restores the surface rather than altering the core.
Colour matching oak to a believable result is far harder than guides make out. Get the tone slightly wrong and the doors look painted rather than timber, which is where well meant DIY efforts fall down. With over thirty years of refinishing experience, Magicman matches across whole doorsets as a routine professional job. The after image shows two leaves that finally look like they belong together.
