Drilled Holes in Marine Wood Veneer Wall Panel Filled

A meticulous drilled wood veneer panel repair cleared a rash of fixing holes from this dark figured wall panel. The marine grade veneer, a rich grey brown timber with strong grain, was peppered with more than a dozen small drilled holes spread across two rows, plus a pale scuff to one side. Each hole had been bored straight through the lacquer and into the board behind.

Holes in this pattern come from screws, brackets or a removed fitting, perhaps a shelf, rail or panel of equipment that was once mounted to the wall and later taken down. Whatever was fixed there, the result is a row of dark dots that catch the eye against an otherwise handsome veneer and cannot simply be painted over.

Our technician filled every hole flush, rebuilt the surface and then regrained and recoloured across the whole area so the figure of the timber ran unbroken through where the fixings had been. The after image shows clean, flowing grain with no trace of the holes or the scuff, the panel reading as a single uninterrupted sheet.

Filling one hole convincingly is hard enough, and a row of them needs the grain to line up perfectly or the repair shows as a smudge under raking light.
