Peeling Laminate Desk Corner Made Whole Again
About This Repair
This grey laminate desk had a corner where the surface had lifted and peeled back, exposing the brown fibreboard underneath. The before image shows the pale grey laminate broken away in a ragged patch at the edge, with the raw core showing through and the top no longer reading as one clean surface. Laminate tends to fail at edges and corners first, where moisture, heat or a caught fingernail can break the bond and let the thin top layer start to lift, after which it peels further with every knock. This peeling grey laminate desk corner repair was about filling and refacing that corner so the desk looked sound and continuous again.
The cause is a failed bond at a vulnerable edge rather than a dramatic impact, the slow peeling that follows once laminate starts to lift. Our technician filled the missing area, rebuilt the corner and refinished it to match the grey top and the contrasting edge so the join disappears. The after image shows a smooth, intact corner with a clean grey surface and a sharp edge line, the exposed fibreboard gone and the desk looking whole.
Sticking peeling laminate back down at home rarely lasts, because the original surface has usually distorted and a household adhesive leaves a visible ridge that simply lifts again. Magicman has been repairing laminate desks and worktops in offices and homes since 1993, using proprietary materials and trained technicians for a flush, durable finish.
