Water Damaged Wooden Worktop Edge Rebuilt by Sink
About This Repair
The front edge of this oak finished worktop, right next to the sink, had taken the classic punishment of a wet kitchen. Water had been escaping over the lip and soaking into the join day after day, and the timber effect board underneath had swollen, split and begun to crumble away. The before image shows the leading edge bulging and breaking up, the chipboard core blown open and disintegrating into a ragged line where the sealed surface should have been crisp and continuous.
This water damaged wooden worktop repair started with drying and cutting back the failed material, then rebuilding the broken edge solid so it held a clean straight profile again. The technician recoloured the rebuilt section to follow the warm oak grain and resealed it against further moisture. The after photograph shows a sound, smooth front edge flowing the full length of the run, the wood tone matched so closely that the once crumbling corner now looks original and properly protected from the water that caused the trouble.
Swollen, water damaged edges are beyond what a worktop repair kit can fix, because the core has to be stabilised and rebuilt before any colour goes near it, or the damp simply keeps spreading. We have been rescuing edges like this since 1993, over thirty years, with fully trained technicians and proprietary fillers, colours and sealants.
