Shower Enclosure Panels With Cut Access Holes Repaired
About This Repair
A neat shower wall panel hole repair turned this awkward eyesore back into a clean, watertight finish. The white gloss wet wall panels in this bathroom had two large rectangular openings cut straight through the face, low down near the floor and around the corner, exposing the pipework, OSB board and dark void behind. Frayed edges showed where the panels had been sawn out in a hurry.
The holes were almost certainly cut by a plumber needing access to the waste and supply pipes behind the panelling. That is a common job, but it leaves a gaping rectangle that ruins the look of the room and breaks the waterproof barrier the panels are there to provide. Cutting a fresh panel in rarely matches, and a visible seam in a wet area is an invitation for moisture to creep behind.
Our technician built the openings back up, rebonded and reinforced the repair, then filled, shaped and polished the surface to recreate the smooth gloss of the surrounding panel. The after image shows the corner and skirting line fully reinstated, the white finish unbroken and the access points gone completely.
A shop bought wet wall panel repair kit is tempting for this kind of damage, but it tends to leave a dull patch, a slight ridge or trapped damp that costs more to put right later. Magicman has rebuilt panels like this for over thirty years using purpose made materials and trained technicians who finish in situ.
