Smashed Timber Door Frame Edge Rebuilt In Situ

The edge of this oak veneered door, hung against a green painted metal jamb, had taken a heavy hit. A long section of veneer and the chipboard core beneath it had smashed away, leaving torn, splintered timber exposed down the closing edge. This was a job to repair a wooden door frame edge and leaf back to a straight, sound line in situ.

Damage on this scale usually comes from a forced entry, a violent slam, or something heavy striking the edge as it swung. Once the core is exposed the door no longer closes cleanly and the bare chipboard soon soaks up moisture and crumbles further. Our technician cut back the loose material, rebuilt the missing edge with proprietary fillers, then shaped and grained it to follow the oak around it. Crucially the door stayed on its hinges, so there was no need to rehang or replace a whole leaf.
